Official Kick-Off Event of the Morgenstadt Global Initiative (MGI) in Barcelona

On November 18, 2019, the official MGI Kick-Off Event took place in Barcelona in the context of the Morgenstadt Innovation Network Meeting. According to the motto of the initiative “global approach, local solutions”, the meeting served to discuss current urban issues from a variety of perspectives. The two days consisted of visits to the City Labs, informative presentations, lively discussions and many opportunities for networking. Representatives from the three pilot cities Kochi (India), Saltillo (Mexico) and Piura (Peru) met with partners of the Morgenstadt Network, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and external experts.

All three pilot cities were introduced by representatives in order to develop a common understanding of the challenges facing the cities and to create a basis for discussion.

In addition to sessions on best practices for innovative solutions in the context of Smart Cities and workshops on the development of the Morgenstadt Initiative and the pilot cities in the context of the International Climate Initiative, the two-day conference also included on-site visits to sustainable solution implementations in urban areas in Barcelona.

The conference opened a space for lively exchange on the future development of cities. In particular, the parallels between cities were highlighted, which despite their location in different countries, even different continents, share many challenges and opportunities. A common principle of action in the form of a roadmap in the context of the Morgenstadt Global Smart Cities Initiative plays a key role here. The meeting in Barcelona has laid the foundation for a joint effort in the face of global challenges.

A detailed report on the conference is available for download below.
